Varanasi Ghats

Varanasi – the religious capital of India. It is one of the oldest cities in the world. Varanasi, also known as Banaras, consists of numerous religious places. From time immemorial Varanasi is considered as important centre of spiritualism, mysticism, Indian Philosophy and Hinduism. The Varanasi Ghats lie on the bank of Ganges. These areas are considered as the most holy place by the people in India. Dasaswamedh Ghat: This is one of the oldest Ghats in Varanasi. The name stands for ten sacrificed horses.

Man Mandir Ghat: This Ghat was built in the 18th century. The most famous attraction of this Varanasi Ghat is the observatory equipped with ornate window casings. Pilgrims making a visit to the Mam Mandir ghat pay homage to the lingam of Someswar, the Lord of the moon.

Asi Ghat: This Ghat of Varanasi is located at the confluence of the Ganga and Asi River. This Ghat is situated at the southernmost direction of Varanasi. Devotees take a bath at this ghat before worshiping the huge lingam, under the peepal tree. The temple situated at this Ghat is Asisangameshwar.

Lalitha Ghat: This Varanasi Ghat lies towards the northern side. This Ghat in Vanaras is quite popular for the Ganga Keshava Temple. Another famous place in this Varanasi Ghat is the wooden temple built in Nepalese style.

Manikarnika Ghat: This is the main burning Ghat in Vanaras. It is believed that people who are cremated here after death, straight away go to heaven.
