Gateway of India Travel

The Gateway of India is one of the most famous monuments in India. Traveling to India without a tour to The Gateway of India would just be incomplete. Located on the waterfront, it is the starting point for most of the tourists who explore the city. The Gateway of India is the first thing that the visitors would see, who comes to Mumbai by boats. It lies just adjacent to the renowned Taj Mahal hotel.

The Gateway of India was built in honor of King George V and Queen Mary’s visit to Mumbai. It is also a celebrated point from where the last troops of British lest India. The Gateway of India was built by a British architect George Wittet with yellow stone in an indo-sarcenic style of architecture.

One of the other attractions of the Gateway of India is that it has ferry services that will take you to several places around Mumbai. One of the main attractions from here is the Elephanta Island. Closer by are the statues of Shivaji and Swami Vivekananda.

The Gateway of India is a beautiful example of architectural grandeur. The Gateway is built from yellow Kharodi basalt and reinforced concrete. The central dome is 48 feet in diameter and 83 feet above ground at its highest point. The central dome is 15 meters is diameter, while the highest point is 26 meter above from the ground.

Taking a tour to the Gateway of India is quite comfortable. You can find taxis, private cars, buses and rickshaws anywhere from any part of Mumbai. Mumbai being the capital city of Mahrashtra and a very important metro of India, it is very well connected by road, rail and airways.

How to Reach
Air: The International Airport is located at a distance of 28 Km from the city centre. Domestic and International flights are available to Mumbai.
Rail: Churchgate and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus are the major railheads near the Gateway of India.
Road: Mumbai is connected to rest of the country with good network of roads. The buses are available from all parts of the city as well as neighboring states.
